STEFAN ZORZOR, the Romanian composer and artist was born in Oradea in 1932 in a family of music, arts and literature lovers. His artistic qualities were revealed very early on. As a child, Stefan Zorzor was fascinated by "the light" and used it later on in his life as a source of inspiration for his drawings and watercolors. In 1950, Romania had slipped into the hands of the communists. Trying to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming an architect, Stefan Zorzor was, unfortunately, denied to study architecture by the new regime because of his social origins. Within days he was forced to embark on a different career path and since music was one of his other passions he decided to pursue musical studies and composition at the National Conservatory in Bucharest. With the help and support of professors and composers such as Martian Negrea and Michail Andricu who appreciated his talents, he was able to finish his first year at the Conservatory. In 1952, his father was left to die in a political penitentiary and young Zorzor was expelled from the Conservatory and sent to four years of forced army service. After this interruption he was finally able to resume his studies at the Conservatory where he graduated with honors in 1963.

Well known to Romanian audiences for his theater and film music, Stefan Zorzor also composed a large number of orchestral works: concerti for piano and two pianos, choral works, as well as chamber and symphonic pieces that were performed in the Romanian concert halls and in Germany, France, Czechoslovakia and the United States. His first public successes were compositions written specially for the theater. In addition, he wrote numerous articles for the Romanian Radio and participated together with other reputable Romanian composers and musicologists in many radio and TV broadcasts such as "the Sunday afternoons with Josef Sava" or the television series: "70 Years of Music", a survey of all developments in music over the past 70 years. Together with Josef Sava he created, produced and presented in the theater a musical initiation cycle for children. Stefan Zorzor's popular radio show: "Music, a Human Universe" received critical acclaim from audiences all around the country when it was aired for the first time and since then at the demand of many listeners has been rebroadcast frequently.

In 1984, Stefan Zorzor emigrated to West Germany embarking on a new adventure. At the age of fifty he started a new life in a new country and learned to speak a new language. Since then he was able to compose many new works for symphonic orchestras, chamber ensembles; film and theater music. Stefan Zorzor currently resides in Munich.

STEFAN ZORZOR'S music is based on the expansion of the modal scale. It consists of free spirited encounters of longer sound series in form of variations combining colors of different instruments. His works are solid forms made of mobile base elements.
